INTRODUCTION
NEWSTAR CHINESE SCHOOL was founded in January 2001 to serve the needs of the general public in the greater Davis area. It is located on the campus of Emerson Jr. High School, 2121 Calaveras Ave., Davis, California. The school year coincides with that of Davis Joint Unified School District. The school is in session on Fridays from 7-9PM. After school classes are from 9-9:30PM on Fridays after school sessions. We teach simplified Chinese, Han Yu Pin Yin, and Pu Tong Hua which are officially used in Mainland China, Singapore, Malaysia and the United Nations.


CLASS OFFERINGS 
Children from kindergarten age and above may attend NSCS.  Students are placed in classes based on age and language skill.  For each school year, NSCS offers regular classes from kindergarten to eighth grade. The eighth grade class is new and is geared towards students with advanced Chinese language skills.  The teacher will supplement textbook contents with additional Chinese history, culture, geography and SAT II preparation materials. A new conversation class is being offered this year with no age limit. we also offer six extracurricular activity classes for both children and adults who wants to learn Chinese dance, singing, kongfu or Taiji.

INSTRUCTION MATERIAL
Standard Chinese , Volume 1 to 9, textbook for 1st grade and up
Happy Chinese , Volume 1, textbook for conversation class
Chinese Dictionary, reference book for 2nd grade and up


REGISTRATION
To register, submit a Registration Form (Part A and Part B) to a registrar during school hours or mail to P.O. Box 74298, Davis, CA 95617-74298. Pre-registration for each school year ends on June 30. Onsite registration is accepted during Open House days and on regular school days. Enrollment is limited to available space.

SPECIAL CULTURAL EVENT  
NEWSTAR CHINESE SCHOOL celebrates traditional Chinese holidays, Moon Festival in September/October, and Spring Festival in January/February. The Year-End Celebration concludes the academic year; this event commemorates and celebrates achievements accomplished by students, teaching staff, and all members of the NewStar community.
